in a nutshell
I'm born and raised in Los Angeles. I've lived throughout L.A. County, but have spent most of my time in East and North East L.A. My career path has been non-linear. I have always had some interest or involvement in the local music scene. I've written for punk zines for over six years and have collaborated with local clubs and venues on events.
I first was hired as a mental health worker at a psychiatric hospital, then moved on to work in residential treatment facilities for clients with addiction and mental health conditions. Fascinated with the complexity of the human body and mind, I decided to switch career paths.
I have since graduated from the Los Angeles County College of Nursing and Allied Health, Western Governors University and California State University Long Beach. I became a member of Sigma Theta Tau, an international honor's society for nurses, after being invited to the organization following my undergraduate degree.
As a Registered Nurse, I've worked in LAC+USC hospital, the largest general hospital in Los Angeles. There I served in ICU, telemetry and psychiatric units caring for the most underserved populations such as the homeless, non-English speaking immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, and clients from the jail and prison system. I've also worked in hospice caring for clients in their final stage of life.
My interest in psychiatry and mental health stems from my own experience with depression and anxiety, as well as watching numerous friends and family struggle with addiction and depression. Historically, mental health providers have not been the most sensitive or relatable. My hope for my practice is to be the provider my friends and family should have had.
